during a whirlwind of month-long activities for children of all ages.
The Imagination Workshop will be open during regular museum hours during the day, but the magic will begin when the "Museum Gone Mad" opens on special evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person for each event and include museum admission. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Temecula Children’s Museum and SAFE (Safe Alternatives For Everyone). Pre-registration is suggested, as the events will sell out early. Visit our website for more information about each event, or call 951-308-6376. Tickets may be purchased at Pennypickles Toys & Gifts, 42081 Main Street, Temecula. The "Mad Professor Café" will offer scrumptious snacks available for purchase.
The fun begins Thursday, October 13 with Mysterious Make-up Night. Victims will have their faces transformed into something extraordinary when Hollywood make-up artist Ms. Kristina Colbert demonstrates special effects make-up application. A 38 foot professional "Star Make-up Trailer", used on movie sets to get the actors ready for their scenes, will be on site. Younger children can have their faces painted with glow-in-the-dark make-up…the better to be seen in the popular Maze Room. This evening’s event is suitable for all ages. Space is limited!
Friday, October 14 is Pumpkin Madness Night. Who knew that pumpkins can be such a source of fun? The movie "It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" will be screened and there will be a variety of pumpkin crafts, games and activities. Bring a pumpkin to decorate with candy! This event is geared for pre-schoolers to age 8.
Saturday, October 15 is Mad Professor Night. Be dressed in costume for the "Dress Like a Mad or Nutty Professor Contest". Professor Pennypickle will provide prizes and "You’re A Mad Professor" certificates. Colleagues of Pennypickle’s will perform science demonstrations and experiments to astonish and fascinate. This event is appropriate for ages 8 and up.
Friday, October 21 is Creepy Crawly Night. You may pass on this one if you are squeamish about spiders, snakes, and scorpions…there will be little creepy critters crawling all over demonstrators. As long as they don’t get away, you’ll be fine… The National Geographic short film "Creepy Creatures" will be screened. This event is suitable for all ages, but not if you have arachnophobia.
On Saturday, October 22, dare to "Sleep with the Spooks." This is a pajama party with pizza, popcorn, movies, games, and crafts. Of course, no one will want to close their eyes for a minute for fear of missing out on all the fun. (No one will actually sleep over, however…) Two sessions will accommodate different age groups and their "spookiness quotient"… younger children from pre-school to age 6 will attend the 6:30 to 9:00 party, while older children (ages 7 to 12) will be allowed to attend from 9:00 to midnight. Please dress in pajamas and slippers (of course… what else would you wear to a pajama party??).
Tuesday, October 25 is the Night of Illusion, where professional magicians will perform tricks that will amaze even the goblins. Is it science?...or is it magic? Who knows??? All ages will be amazed.
Wednesday, October 26 is Spooky Story Night. Dr. D’Moray D’Mento will amuse and entertain with stories, poems, puns, songs, and general silliness. Older children and adults may prefer to be spooked in the Music Room with dramatic recitals of more spine-tingling stories. The "Shrieky Screaming Contest" may earn you a prize and a "Certificate of Screechiness". Dr. D’Mento insists that he would like all ages to attend…if you dare.
Thursday, October 27 is Earth to Mars Night. Come in costume for the "Dress Like a Martian" Contest. Astronomy teacher extraordinaire Mark Ritter will amaze you with insights about Mars, space, and what those little green men might look like… Enter the "Draw a Martian Contest". Screen "My Favorite Martian". BE a Martian! This event is suitable for all ages, and Martians.
Monday, October 31 is the Monster Mash Party from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with costume and screaming contests, candy, games, and fun for all ages.
And speaking of the Museum Gone Mad… fright and terror abound from October 28 through the 31 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. when the Imagination Workshop is converted into the Haunted Museum. While Professor Pennypickle is away on one of his time-travels, his workshop has been seized by Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and turned into a laboratory of horror. This creepy experience is guaranteed to leave you screaming for more. Tickets are $5 per person and include a trip through the 3D Haunted Maze Room. Due to intense scariness, the Haunted Museum is recommended for teens and older.
