Now is the time to enjoy a whole new cornucopia of fresh seasonal California fruit.
Coming to the Saturday Old Town Farmers’ Market each week are cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots. The next months will include ample supplies of pluots and apriums. Pluots have a plum heritage and are more plum than apricot, with a smooth skin. Apriums haven apricot heritage, are more apricot than plum and have a slightly fuzzy skin. Both are good sources of Vitamin A and C and potassium. These excellent fresh fruits are picked fresh and trucked to the local farmers’ markets. Two of northern California’s finest fruit growers bring their fruit to the markets each week.
Also available on Saturday and Wednesday are new crop sweet corn and delicious fresh strawberries from our local farmers. Summer melons have started. Production plus heirloom varieties will increase throughout the next few months.
Farmers’ markets are a great place to satisfy the new USDA recommendation of up to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
The Old Town Temecula Market is located between Front and 6th Streets and is open every Saturday between 8a.m and 12:30 p.m. The market at the Promenade Mall is located next to Edwards Theater and is open Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
