Rotary District Governor, Helene A. Kalfuss and her husband Leonard Kalfuss visited the Temecula Noon Rotary Club this week as one of the five clubs she was visiting while in the area. Helene is the District Governor for District 5330 which has 58 Rotary clubs and reaches throughout Riverside, San Bernardino. As part of her duties as District Governor, Helene will visit each club in the district at least once in her 2006-2007 term. Helene met her husband, Palm Springs Sunup Rotarian Leonard M. Kalfuss, an orthopedic surgeon, while she was Chief of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Allen Park, Michigan. Helene was inducted into the Palm Springs Rotary Club in February, 1995, and has served on the board of directors every year since then.
During her visit at the Temecula Noon Rotary club, Governor Kalfuss presented Paul Harris Fellow awards to Sally Meyers, Martin Steckdaub and Mathew Scott (on behalf of his father Dr. Bob Beck). This prestigious award is given to any Rotarian who contributes – or in whose name is contributed – a gift of $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund. Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate, a Paul Harris Fellow pin, and a medallion.
District Governor Kalfuss, being a multiple Paul Harris Fellow herself, went on to enlighten the club of the many areas both locally and worldwide that the funds collected for the Paul Harris Foundation go to benefit. In addition to the several Ambassadorial scholarships, that are given out to qualified individuals in our area, and specific community projects such as park building and community support, these funds also go to build wells in India and provide food and Medicine in Russia and Africa. Governor Kalfuss pointed out that Rotary International is the only organization that is Leading the Way in working to train and educate future leaders with a $50,000 Peace and Conflict scholarship given out from “Peace Building” districts around the world.
The District Governor culminated her visit with recognition of several other Rotarians for their Service above Self in the many areas of club and international service at the Temecula Noon Rotary Club.
