The Alamo Drafthouse has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the greatest movie theaters in the history of mankind…or at least the history of movie theaters. With their signature events, ample food and drink selection, and strict no-talking policy, they make obsolete all tawdry multiplexes and completely redefine the movie-going experience. Here’s what they’re up to this week! As we've previously mentioned, Prometheus is certainly pumping out promo clips like crazy over the past few weeks. There have already been viral videos featuring Guy Pearce and Michael Fassbender mixed in among the seemingly countless clips that have been released, which isn't a bad thing, since the sci-fi film is easily one of next month's most anticipated movies. This latest clip, though not very entertaining, shows off more of the special effects that we're likely to see in the film. Noomi Rapace is front and center in this one. She plays Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in the film, a young scientist and a member of the expedition to the alien home world aboard the vessel Prometheus. The film doesn't hit theaters for another couple weeks (June 8 to be exact), so... Read More Read Comments
Battleship is this summer's Transformers, and I mean that literally. Not only do both feature aliens with metal-like machinery which changes from mode of transportation into active weaponry, but they are also Hasbro toys turned into over-the-top, profanity-laden action films aimed at teen boys. Transformers inspired the movie trend that brings Battleship to moviegoers today. However, the board game is one of the few toy properties that actually made it to the big screen. This year, the multiplex was supposed to be jampacked with toy adaptations like Clue, Magic 8 Ball, Ouija and Monopoly. Hollywood has mostly abandoned development on these projects; it seems transforming an inanimate object into two hours of entertainment is tougher than expected. Transformers is the exception... Who is that pint-sized, camouflaged Naval officer wielding massive machine guns and programming missiles to take out alien war crafts in Battleship? Why, it’s Billboard sensation (and tabloid fodder) Rihanna, following in the footsteps of countless who’ve come before her by making the transition from the recording booth to the movie set. In Battleship, Rihanna flexes her acting and physical muscles to play Petty Officer Cora 'Weps' Raikes, a soldier with an attitude who helps Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) fend off marauding extraterrestrials off the coast of Hawaii.
